Weekly MP3 #183: Jeff Sharel - Conte d'Automne

Jeff Sharel

Great late night drifting, dusty jazz loops and breathy flute, via Epitonic.

Crackle-heavy bass loop, some piano flourishes, and a breathy flute solo. The only beats are in the realms of conga and shakers, zero boom bap. This kind of thing could easily get maligned because of its cafe friendly sound, but the track stands up really well I reckon.

Weekly MP3 #182: Lagos Disco Machine - We Went To Churchaven Today And I Fell In The Water

I guess the title hints that this is not going to be at all disco, nor Nigerian-sounding for that matter.  I grabbed it from The Internet Archive, where it was uploaded by an Australian label, but you could also try the guy's Bandcamp...

Weekly MP3 #181: Kris Keogh - As Meteor Showers Melted Your Heart

Kris Keogh doing some painting or some such

Solo harp deconstructions thanks to New Weird Australia. It's one of those pay-if-you'd-like-to jobbies.

Weekly MP3 #180: Reefer - Let It Go (Flying Lotus Remix)

The guys from the band Reefer

RCRDLBL

This remix is amazingly remote from the original lilting, guitar-led sing-along.  But its weird hard-to-pin tempo etc. is pretty great.

Weekly MP3 #179: Mount Pleasant - II Tough II Dance

Mount Pleasant playing live and looking quite serious

Christchurch indie-dance eclecticism, courtesy of the Mount Pleasant Bandcamp page.

Weekly MP3 #178: A Lull - Weapons For War (Houses Remix)

A collage of the faces of the members of the band called A Lull

Slow-building scuffed bliss pop singalong posted in February at XLR8R and also on Houses' Soundcloud.

Weekly MP3 #177: Seefeel - Dead Guitars

Promo pic of the band

A weirdly jagged ambient dub number, heavy on the dread, and available from NME of all places.  Unique.

Weekly MP3 #176: Ta-ku - Stones Throw Beat Battle #202

Really individual-sounding hip-hop beat, get from Ta-ku's Soundcloud or the player thing here:

Some shoegazers first time around

As I enter my 37th year, forgive me a bit of nostalgia... Saw a Creation Records doco last week and started the day listening to some Medicine and Ride.  I was going to do the usual thing of posting some links around the traps but figure may as well throw some things together.  Very, very obvious choices if "you were there", but hopefully enjoyable.

Weekly MP3 #175: Warpaint - Undertow (Javelin Remix)

Cute flip on last year's Belly-/Breeders-sounding track, posted on Warpaint's website.
