Weekly mp3 #128: Christopher Willits - Light Into Branches

BetterPropaganda is one of a bunch of sites this cropped up on.
Nick Drake with electronics? Willits sings gently and double-tracked near the top of his register, on top of acoustic guitar and warbling synth bass. No beats. Really restrained use of explicit digital "glitchiness" from time to time. Things get a bit more dramatic with some soaring, flutey electric guitar towards the end- bit like Fripp on Bowie's '"Heroes"'. I love that sound. :)
Mr Willits is an American guitarist and electronic producer, who does lots of stuff using software to process guitar parts as they're played. After a bunch of instrumental releases that might have been called glitch or ambient or something, in 2006 he busted out the shoegazer 'Surf Boundaries' with songs and drums and stuff. Crazy talk. This tune's off this year's 'Tiger Flower Circle Sun', which I liked more - he toned down the washed-out side of things and pared the song-based stuff back to fewer instruments, which, in his case, works in his favour.
